In November 2023, WellMedic will launch its purpose-built SCA course, study day and coaching package!
As expected, existing providers have repackaged and repurposed their existing CSA and RCA content into an SCA course.
At WellMedic, we’ve purposefully held off until we felt that we had the best understanding of the current SCA market and what we could bring to the table.
After much analysis, we believe that we’ve found the right fit for the MRCGP SCA exam and we can bring a fresh approach to SCA preparation.
Course trainers
Dr Asia Ali
Asia is a first five GP who recently passed the RCA with flying colours.
She is passionate about medical education, has an interest in Women’s health and regularly examines for the GMC PLAB 2 exam.
Dr Sham Mahmood
Sham is the founder of WellMedic and has been leading the way with flexible online education for GP trainees since 2020.
He’s helped 180 trainees with their RCA preparation and passed the RCA in its first sitting when consultations were limited to ten minutes!

The study day will summarise our course content in a short webinar.
We will highlight our case examples and our approach to passing the SCA.

Our Course
Our SCA course will focus on the following elements;
- The theory of consulting for the MRCGP SCA.
- Fine-tune your existing consultation skills.
- Remove the robotic and formulaic dialogue.
As stated by the RCGP – “To avoid ‘formulaic’ consulting, try to avoid rigidly applying a set consulting ‘model’ to the consultation that does not respond to the individual patient.”
- Build bespoke management plans that are flexible to the patients presenting complaints.
- Learn the art of self-appraising your own consultations.
- Demonstrations of good and bad domain coverage.
- Case examples with pre-recorded examples featuring experienced actors.
- Practice cases with candidate and patient instructions.
- Summary infographics for management options.
- Pre-recorded and flexible content.
We appreciate that you are an experienced doctor and you do not need to be spoonfed and retaught how to consult patients, we do not provide formulaic “copy-cat” sentences and phrases that could be easily detected from experienced examiners! Our course aims to fine-tune your already fantastic skills!
Our Coaching package
We are launching a one-to-one coaching programme.
We do not feel that a live mock exam is the best way to prepare for the SCA.
Here’s why…
- You attend a mock exam – and you potentially underperform on your first go.
- You receive feedback.
- There’s no feedback loop – in effect, you must purchase another mock course to see if you’ve improved with their feedback.
This makes absolutely no sense to our team!
You may ask, what’s the alternative?
A one-to-one coaching programme is a better approach for trainees.
Our one-to-one programme will focus on unique elements of the consultations and marking domains.
Over the programme, we will focus on the progression of your skills and test this using professional actors.
We will also review your pre-recorded consultations (with simulated patients only).
