To create your personalised AKT revision plan, I have split the AKT curriculum topics into two broad groups based on my personal experience of taking the MRCGP AKT.

To create your personalised AKT revision plan, you will need to rank the curriculum topics from your easiest topic to the most difficult!

The topics have been carefully selected from within the RCGP curriculum topic guide.

How should I rank the topics?

Using the RCGP curriculum guide would be the most expansive method, but it isn’t always realistic, so you may find that regular timed tests per speciality are better suited to you. Alternatively, you could go with your judgement without any formal testing.

Once you have ranked your topics, you will find yourself looking at three personalised MRCGP AKT revision timetables.

I would recommend using the revision plan which is most suited to your current timeline.

Step One:

Let’s start by ranking your topics in group one.

Please rank from the easiest (1) to the most difficult (10)!

Group one topics include;

Cardiovascular Health, Dermatology, Gastroenterology, Gynaecology and Breast, Infection Disease, Metabolic and Endocrinology, Musculoskeletal Health, Neurology, Respiratory Health and Children and Young People.

Step Two:

Now it’s time to rank your topics from group two.

Please rank from the easiest (1) to the most difficult (10)!

Group two topics include;

Ear Nose and Throat, Eyes and Vision, Genomic Medicine, Maternity and Reproductive Health, Haematology, Kidney and Urology, Mental Health, Smoking, Alcohol and Substance Misuse, End of Life and Urgent and Unscheduled Care.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION – PLEASE READ THIS NOW!

Some of the topics from within the RCGP curriculum topic guides are missing from your plan! Here is how you may choose to include them.

The Professional Topic Guides are the relevant curriculum topics for your statistics and administration revision. These have been included within the revision plan.

People with Long-term Conditions, including Cancer and Older Adults, have not been included as they cross into multiple specialities. However, it is worth looking at the relevant sections within the curriculum topic guides.

I would recommend linking the following topics into your existing schedule;

Allergy and Immunology with Dermatology.

Population Health with either Statistics or Administration.

Neurodevelopmental disorders with Children and Young People.

REGULARLY RE-ASSESS

You will see that our Sixteen-week and Twelve-week plans ask you to re-assess at regular intervals. When it comes to reassessing your performance, please re-take steps one and two. This will update your schedule after the reassessment point!

You must continue to use your initial revision plan timeline – if you started with the sixteen-week plan, please continue with this after the re-assessment.

Administration, Statistics and Pharmacology

Pharmacology should be a continual process throughout your revision, try and segment this based on the topics you cover!

Administration and Statistics are key topic areas. If you want to score highly – check out the WellMedic administration and evidence-based medicine courses, which help candidates secure more than 85% in both domains!
